The seminar focuses on the conception and implementation of small but high-quality computer graphics applications. Each project is expected to unite technical excellence with artistic intention. From a technical perspective, it should make use of contemporary interactive 3D rendering methods. From a conceptual perspective, it should be guided by a distinct artistic idea that gives the application its purpose, coherence, and identity. The artistic idea is not an ornament added afterwards; it is the central motivation of the work. There is no product idea in the conventional sense. What matters instead is the quality and harmony of image, animation, sound, motion, atmosphere, and interaction.
We at the research group for Computer Graphics Systems, chaired by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Döllner, designed a project seminar at the intersection of advanced computer graphics, computational art, and agentic software development. With six Bachelor's students, we conducted this seminar named "3D Rendering & Computational Art" in the summer semester of 2026 at Hasso Plattner Institute, Digital Engineering Faculty, University of Potsdam. The results were as follows.

In this protoype, we developed a 3D interactive application that reinterprets the classical Still Life genre as a temporally unfolding spatial artwork. The application transitions from a familiar Still Life room setting into cosmic space, where objects slowly drift upward and the scene gives way to silence. The artistic scenery preserves the contemplative character of its genre while turning it into a dynamic experience, where ambient sound deepens the immersion.
